MIAMI, Florida — To provide live entertainment while on the open seas, Carnival Cruise Lines relies on HARMAN’s Soundcraft Si Compact digital consoles for an array of options to meet the needs of its passengers.

Carnival Cruise Lines, offering destinations such as the Bahamas, Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico, provides entertainment for all ages including casinos, full hair and beauty salons and spas, yoga classes, many restaurants with unique varieties of food, fun and games centers, and many clubs and bars with comedy and live music.

Out of 12 vessels, two of them carry Soundcraft Si Compact 16 consoles, while the remaining 10 each have an Si Compact 24. There is an accompanying stage box for each console on board.

When looking for the perfect console to fit the variety of entertainment needs aboard the ship, Erik Zvanut of Dobbs-Stanford, Soundcraft’s regional representative for Florida, suggested Soundcraft’s Si Compact series because the layout is similar to an analog board and would be easy for the onboard staff to learn. “Once I showed everyone the Si Compact series they fell in love with it pretty quickly,” Zvanut said. “The ease of use and the amount of functionality you get with the board is so much for the compact size.”

On each ship, the boards are mostly used in the theater and nightclub space, which offers live band karaoke. “The fact that the board is small and can be transported easily is huge. There isn’t much extra room on each ship, so having the small desk makes it easy to fit in a corner wherever it is needed. Carnival also wanted a desk that was easy to set up right out of the box without the need to retrain staff members,” stated Zvanut.

James Keaton, Entertainment Audio Supervisor for Carnival Cruise Lines, couldn’t be happier with the purchase decision. “The price point was perfect. Since the musicians usually operate the sound systems, it’s great to have an easy-to-use board that doesn’t need much background training. With a few of the vessels being older, it also helped to connect the stage boxes with CAT5 cable. Much of the copper wire is out of shape, and having the ease of CAT5 allows us to utilize many more inputs and outputs for whatever we may need. We tried to find a universal product that would benefit everyone, and the Si Compact consoles do the trick.”

Many of the settings and features of the Si Compact series benefit Carnival Cruise lines on a daily basis. “Many times we have a group of rotating bands that perform on different vessels,” said Keaton. “Having the ability to save settings and presets for each group makes the transition between acts very easy. Whoever is operating the desk just needs to upload the settings and they are set to go.”

For Carnival Cruise Lines, this is the start of a long-term upgrade to the entire system onboard the vessels. “It’s great that the stage boxes are compatible with the large Vi series consoles. It gives us options to expand in the future, which is our goal,” expressed Keaton.

LAS VEGAS, NV, March 30, 2012 – Medeco High Security Locks, an ASSA ABLOY company, announces the upgrade of its Logic CLIQ and Nexgen XT web-based platforms to allow business domain administration. This functionality allows large eCylinder installations to be divided into smaller divisions allowing for enhanced key control and tighter management control.

With Domain Administration, Security Administrators may delegate key control responsibilities to Sub Administrators at different divisions, while also limiting visibility and access rights between those divisions.  This new feature will enhance both security and efficiency.

“We are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of large organizations deploying  eCylinders as a cost-efficient and highly portable method to control loss and liability, where divisional separation is important for management control,” said Joseph Kingma, Director of ASSA ABLOY High Security and Aftermarket Group eCylinder Business Development.   “This very flexible addition of business domain administration to Logic and Nexgen XT software further supports Medeco’s commitment to meet the dynamic needs of our clients.”

Domain Administration is ideal for large organizations operating on a National or International level requiring divisional security control such as: large retail establishments, hospitals, or colleges and universities. Logic CLIQ and Nexgen XT Domain Administration will be demonstrated at ISC West 2012 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada from March 28 – 30, 2012.

Medeco is part of the ASSA ABLOY group, and can be found at the ISC West show at booth #11065.

LAS VEGAS, NV, March 30, 2012 — ASSA ABLOY today announced the introduction of its ABLOY PROTEC CLIQ PLW330N Super Weatherproof Padlock, a programmable electromechanical lock designed to operate in harsh conditions.

“ABLOY padlocks are renowned for their durability, as confirmed by independent tests,” said Corbin Anderson, National Sales Manager, Abloy Security. “The PLW330N is not only one of the toughest padlocks we make, it provides a double layer of security, thanks to its combination of electronic and mechanical protection.”

The ABLOY Super Weatherproof (SWP) designation indicates that a padlock has specific high weather resistance. The PLW330N’s construction ensures that rainwater, dust and dirt cannot penetrate into the lock mechanism. When the PLW330N’s cap is closed, the lock is watertight even if it is submerged. The PLW330N and all ABLOY locks that carry the SWP label comply with the IP57 standard.

The PLW330N is part of the ABLOY PROTEC CLIQ Remote system, a complete, patented range of electromechanical cylinder locks, cabinet locks, padlocks, keys and remote units that incorporate both mechanical and programmable electronic locking technologies to provide the highest level of protection. The PLW330N has both mechanical locking functionality and a built-in encrypted electronic chip and can only be opened by an authorized PROTEC CLIQ key that is programmed to open the padlock.

Every time the PLW330N is used, the event is stored in its internal access register that records the date and time a key was inserted into the lock. In addition, keys to the PLW330N lock can be updated via a CLIQ Remote device, without requiring the lock owner to be present.

LAS VEGAS, NV, March 29, 2012 — ASSA ABLOY today announced the introduction of its CLIQ REMOTE model NQ421 WallPD and NQ422 MobilePD, two devices that enable ABLOY PROTEC CLIQ keys to be programmed from remote locations.

The NQ431 WallPD and NQ422 MobilePD are the latest additions to the ABLOY PROTEC CLIQ system, a complete, patented range of electromechanical cylinder locks, cabinet locks, padlocks and keys that incorporate both mechanical and programmable electronic locking technologies to provide the highest level of security.

The NQ421 WallPD mounts on a wall and connects to a central server via LAN, while the NQ422 MobilePD is a handheld programming unit that communicates with Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. Both models have the ability to program ABLOY PROTEC CLIQ keys by downloading information received from the central administrative server into the keys. This functionality makes it practical to install NQ421s and NQ422s in locations even over a geographically wide area.

“Our new CLIQ Remote devices provide an easy way to program and manage keys throughout an entire organization,” said Corbin Anderson, National Sales Manager, Abloy Security. “It enables a wide range of industries including healthcare, education, business, transportation, the military and others to ensure complete control over which people have access to all or any part of their facilities.”

The CLIQ Remote units are programmed and administered using the CLIQ Web Manager key management software. Because the keys can be programmed remotely, less administrative work and computers are required to get the right keys to the right people. The keys can be programmed to operate selected locks within a facility, ensuring that only properly authorized personnel will have access to designated areas. Even the days and times that a key is functional can be programmed. The keys contain a chip that interacts with the encrypted electronic code in the chip embedded in the lock – providing maximum electronic as well as mechanical security.

The CLIQ Web Manager also provides reporting back to the central administrator. The time a lock was accessed, how many times a lock has been used and even who used it can be tracked. The chance of misusing the system is minimized, since the NQ421 and NQ422 do not store the data they receive.
