LAS VEGAS, Nevada — At CES 2013 HARMAN’s JBL makes history once again with the introduction of its new flagship Project Everest DD67000 loudspeaker, incorporating a host of upgrades to achieve an extraordinary new standard in loudspeaker performance. The DD67000 features new woofers, a refined crossover network and additional improvements to deliver remarkable musical accuracy.

The JBL Project Everest DD67000 delivers the emotion, grandeur and nuance of music with consummate realism, with real-life scale and dynamic presence from its authoritative bass through its natural midrange and transparent, extended frequency response to beyond 50kHz. Complementing its stunning performance, the Project Everest DD67000 is striking in appearance, blending classic JBL design elements that are evocative of the company’s legendary Hartsfield and Paragon loudspeakers with contemporary styling. The DD67000 retains curved and angled surfaces of its predecessor and a dramatically flared midrange horn, complemented by the loudspeaker’s beautiful furniture-grade craftsmanship, elegant rosewood finish with the addition of a new carbon-fiber baffle trim panel and elegant rosewood and maple finishes.

The DD67000 is equipped with two of the new 1501AL-2 cast-aluminum-frame woofers, featuring a three-layer laminated cone construction comprised of an inner and outer layer of pure pulp stock with an inner foam-injection-material core. This woofer cone combines high rigidity and fast response for taut, articulate, low frequency with greater extension down to 29 Hz (-10dB anechoic). Performance is further improved by the 1501AL-2’s newly designed accordion-pleated poly/cotton surround, yielding a woofer with a fundamental resonance that is 10Hz higher than previously for improved agility and “snap” and a more consistent tonal balance at any volume. Additional features include a massive 4-inch voice coil immersed in an Alnico 5DG magnet that is immune to temperature changes, a copper-steel-laminated top plate that contributes to more linear magnetic behavior within the driver, and additional details.

The 476Be midrange/high-frequency compression driver utilizes a 4-inch, pure-beryllium diaphragm that is formed as an integral one-piece diamond-embossed surround and dome. The 476Be also features a 4-inch aluminum edge-wound voice coil, a rapid-flare coherent-wave phasing plug, a pure-copper-sleeved polepiece that maintains maximum magnetic gap flux and other enhancements to deliver extraordinary transparency and natural vocal and instrumental reproduction.

The DD67000’s 045Be-1 ultrahigh-frequency compression driver uses a 1-inch beryllium diaphragm and 2-inch neodymium magnet to produce frequency response beyond 50kHz. The driver features a new precision-cast, pure-magnesium phasing plug that offers better heat dissipation for improved clarity even at higher volumes, and improved manufacturing processes have enabled the driver to provide nearly 5dB more output above 30kHz.

Both compression drivers are mounted in JBL’s exclusive computer-optimized Bi-Radial® horns that are made from the company’s acoustically inert SonoGlass® material, eliminating the unwanted strident colorations that can occur with conventional horn designs. The horns are shaped to provide optimum dispersion in the horizontal and vertical planes, for smooth frequency response and precise imaging over a wider on- and off-axis area.

The Project Everest DD67000 employs a unique crossover network. It is designed to let the woofers operate in different frequency ranges, which provides optimum directivity and high output. The crossover network uses a DC bias system that keeps the capacitors operating in Class A mode, yielding maximum sonic purity. The network is comprised of four separate circuit boards – one for each transducer – to optimize each board for each driver and its corresponding frequency range.

The DD67000’s performance can be fine tuned for any system and room thanks to its front-mounted control panels that enable precise adjustment of low-frequency and high-frequency level and other characteristics. The JBL Project Everest DD67000 is built entirely without compromise with top-quality components including air-core inductors, polypropylene foil capacitors, wire-wound and metal oxide resistors used in multiples to prevent value shift during high-power operation and more. LAS VEGAS, Nevada — At CES 2013 HARMAN’s JBL announced it is broadening its top-of-the-line Project Everest loudspeaker range with the introduction of its DD65000 ultrahigh-end floorstanding speaker. The DD65000 combines newly developed driver technologies and refinements to deliver extraordinary musical realism, and has a distinctively elegant visual appeal that blends classic and contemporary design elements.

“The Project Everest DD65000 is designed to be a superlative loudspeaker in every respect,” said Jim Garrett, Director of Marketing and Product Management, HARMAN Luxury Audio Group and Loudspeakers. “It incorporates new woofer, new compression drivers and other refinements that build upon the technologies found in previous Project Everest and JBL K2 loudspeakers. The Project Everest DD65000 employs the proven JBL design concept of combining the exceptional dynamic range and transient response and “ease” of reproduction of horn-loaded compression drivers with the authoritative low-frequency impact, precise imaging and soundstage realism afforded by dynamic drivers. The DD65000 provides richly detailed, natural vocal and instrumental reproduction and conveys all the power and nuance of the original performance with a real-life sense of presence and scale.

To achieve its distinguished performance, the DD65000 incorporates a number of newly developed drivers and technologies. It employs two newly developed 1501AL-1 cast-aluminum-frame woofers with a new paper pulp-matrix woofer material augmented by a rear-applied AquaPlas coating, a combination that preserves sonic neutrality while damping unwanted cone resonances for controlled, articulate bass response. The cone is mounted to the frame via a foamed rubber surround with a roll diameter that yields the optimum amount of travel while retaining as small a diameter as possible for the maximum usable cone area. The use of the new cone material and surround results in lower distortion in the woofer’s higher operating range and a lower 18Hz fundamental resonance for greater bass extension. Additional enhancements include a massive 4-inch voice coil immersed in an Alnico 5DG magnet that is immune to temperature changes, a copper-steel-laminated top plate that contributes to more linear magnetic behavior within the driver, and other refinements.

The 476Mg midrange/high-frequency compression driver utilizes a 4-inch high-purity magnesium alloy foil diaphragm that is formed as an integral one-piece diamond-embossed surround and dome. The low density of the magnesium alloy combined with the high stiffness and tuning of the surround’s design yields a transducer that provides exceptional resolution, transient response and detailed, natural midrange and treble reproduction.

The DD65000’s all-new 045Mg ultrahigh-frequency compression driver features a 1-inch diaphragm that uses the same high-purity magnesium alloy foil material found in the 476Mg. This is done to ensure sonic consistency between the midrange/high-frequency and ultrahigh-frequency drivers. LAS VEGAS, Nevada — At CES 2013, HARMAN’s JBL today announced the introduction of its S3900 loudspeaker, a three-way floorstanding tower that utilizes professional-grade drivers and components to deliver extraordinary musical realism in an elegantly proportioned dual 10-inch-woofer design. The S3900 is ideal for use in the highest-quality stereo music systems or as an L, C, R loudspeaker in a JBL Synthesis multichannel home theater installation.

The JBL S3900 employs two cast-frame 10-inch pulp-cone woofers each incorporating dual 3-inch voice coils, high-power neodymium-magnets and other refinements. The dual-woofer configuration delivers the tightness and articulation of 10-inch drivers along with the powerful bass response of a larger driver cone area.

The S3900 utilizes a JBL 175Nd-3 midrange/high-frequency compression driver with a 2-inch AquaPlas™-coated titanium diaphragm, loaded into a 90 by 60 degree BiRadial® horn. The AquaPlas treatment maintains the superlative transient response of titanium while providing added damping and rigidity for more natural midrange and high-frequency reproduction. The 138Nd 0.75-inch pure titanium ultrahigh-frequency compression driver, which extends to beyond 40kHz, is mated with a 60 by 30 degree Bi-Radial horn to provide clear, open high-frequency response without strain or harshness.

The midrange/high-frequency and ultrahigh-frequency compression drivers are mounted in a single-piece dual-horn assembly made of JBL’s acoustically inert SonoGlass® material. This configuration enables both drivers to be rigidly mounted in frequency-optimized, computer-designed Bi-Radial horns and precisely placed in their optimum locations. The result is accurate imaging within a naturally proportioned soundstage, with a smooth tonal balance both on- and off-axis across a wider listening area and a smooth sonic blend with the woofers.

Every aspect of the JBL S9300 is engineered to complement these superlative drivers. The S9300’s computer-designed bass-reflex enclosure has a rear-firing port and is rigidly braced and precisely damped at critical points; all contribute to the speaker’s high sensitivity, neutrality and freedom from coloration. LAS VEGAS, Nevada – At CES 2013, the HARMAN Luxury Audio Group announced the introduction of the JBL Synthesis SDP-45 Surround Processor, an ultra high-end home theater control center that offers extraordinary audio and video performance. Designed to be the heart of a JBL Synthesis custom-installation home entertainment system, the 7.1-channel SDP-45 offers a wealth of versatile features including eight HDMI™ inputs, compatibility with all popular surround sound formats, balanced and single-ended connections, easy to use setup menus and much more.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — At CEDIA 2012, HARMAN’s JBL Synthesis is announcing it has updated its ARCOS Adaptive Room Correction and Optimization System to Version 2.6 for WindowsXP, which incorporates a number of performance and user interface upgrades for faster operation and improved system calibration. ARCOS is an integrated software and hardware package that provides precise accuracy in setting up and calibrating a JBL Synthesis multichannel audio system.

In related news, HARMAN Research Acoustician, Todd Welti, will be presenting a paper at the 133rd AES Convention detailing new research into the behavior of multiple subwoofers in listening rooms. Thanks to new modeling software that Welti has developed, a larger variety of subwoofer configurations and placements can be modeled more accurately.

In all rooms, there are resonances or room modes that emphasize some frequencies and attenuate others, detracting from in-room frequency response accuracy. ARCOS v2.6 compensates for these irregularities more precisely than ever before and provides time delay correction and other benefits, to achieve flatter frequency response and extraordinary sonic realism.

ARCOS v2.6 offers 10 times faster AutoEQ calculation than previously. The time it takes to calculate a speaker channel’s required EQ compensation with up to 20 bands of parametric EQ is now reduced from over a minute to about six seconds. In addition, the AutoEQ feature now provides an Iterations function that enables the AutoEQ to calculate the multiple interactions involved in the process and get a more accurate room correction answer including how the various EQ bands interact with one another. In addition, the upgrade offers improved AutoEQ settings for better timbre-matching of the left, center and right speakers in a multichannel audio system, for more accurate subwoofer low-pass calibration and more accurate location and correction of room modes via “ringing” out the room.

In a major functionality enhancement, ARCOS now provides native support for more Harman HiQnet-capable devices in addition to the SDEC models already supported. HiQnet is a communications protocol that enables compatible devices to communicate with one another and act in synergy to deliver enhanced performance capabilities. The expansion of HiQnet in ARCOS will enable future expansion into more products and facilitate end-to-end connectivity using a unified system language.

The ARCOS user interface has also been improved. The displays now run up to four times faster, giving graphing updates and user input better smoothness and feel. All graphs can now be zoomed and panned, allowing the user to see much more detail when zeroing in on a “problem” frequency. The legends on the graphs are more legible.

The ability to compare the individual speakers in a system by overlaying their frequency response graphs is greatly improved, as it is now possible to add and remove multiple overlaid channels at once in real time. Additional interface improvements include an improved microphone calibration page, better Help menus for the final listening and source setup steps, better display of speaker crossover functions and JBL Synthesis SDEC4500 and SDEC3000 equalizer/crossover bass management functionality, and many additional enhancements.

The JBL Synthesis ARCOS Adaptive Room Correction and Optimization System is supplied with all the hardware, measurement microphones, software and accessories needed to calibrate a JBL Synthesis multichannel audio system. ARCOS is currently available to all authorized JBL Synthesis dealers and system integrators.
