XPAND 3D CEO Maria Costeira Named to 3D@Home Panel at CES 2013

LOS ANGELES, California – Underscoring its market leadership in 3D technologies for the home, XPAND 3D today announced that Chief Executive Officer Maria Costeira has been named to participate in the 3D@Home panel discussion at CES 2013. With CES 2013 expected to be hotbed of new technologies, new ideas for the future and — no doubt— new debates, excitement is already strong for what promises to be a compelling discussion.

According to Maria Costeira, the timing could not be better, “Our industry is just now seeing the tip of the 3D iceberg and I believe that gaming, film, sports and education will drive the broad of adoption of 3D in an exciting variety of home applications. If one simply looks at the volume and production scale of native 3D films set for early 2013 and then considers the list of game releases, planned episodic television programming and large-scale domestic and international sporting events, one quickly realizes that 3D content will hit critical mass in mid-2013. Couple this phenomenon with supplemental growth from re-rendering legacy 2D catalog content for entertainment and education and it’s immediately clear how important CES will be to shaping the channel and manufacturing community’s outlook for 3D. It’s for this reason that I am very happy to participate in this discussion on the future of 3D in the home.”

Maria Costeira’s deep belief that multidimensional imaging presents the next great advance in entertainment, education, science and industry has been central to XPAND 3D’s strategy since she led the foundation the company in 2005 and its development ever since.

Maria Costeira serves as an executive officer on the board of directors of X6D LIMITED and also serves as board member or chairperson for several organizations, including the International 3D Society and the American Association of Professional Women. A cinema veteran, having managed AMC Theatres International across numerous territories in continental Europe, Maria led XPAND 3D’s acquisition of NuVision’s active stereoscopic technologies and developed new products and services that today are considered the essence of the 3D revolution. Maria Costeira earned a Business Degree in the UK, specializing in International Economics, and an OAMLP (Oxford Advanced Management and Leadership Programme).

XPAND 3D will also be exhibiting its full line of 3D products at CES 2013 at booth #20231.

DEAUVILLE, France – Delivering the very best quality and style in 3D cinema in one of the world’s largest and most innovative film markets, an XPAND 3D Infinity system was used at the 67th Congrès de la Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français (National Federation of French Cinemas). Held at the Centre International in Deauville, France, the event brought together exhibitors and film distributors from around the country and featured screenings of several films, including Clément Michel’s La Stratégie de la Poussette, Grégory Magne and Stéphane Viard’s L’Air de Rien and Ben Affleck’s Argo.

The fourth day of the Congrès de la Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français was “Distributor Day,” featuring a lineup of film previews from numerous French distributors. For all 3D content, XPAND provided a 3D cinema system featuring no less than 2,000 of its Infinity active 3D glasses.

“France is celebrated for its progressive and innovative attitude towards film and the Congrès de la Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français is one of the largest events of the year for the French film industry. As such, there can be no compromises when it comes to technology, which is why our Infinity 3D system is ideal for this event,” said Alain Rémond, President of Sales and Business Development, XPAND 3D. “No other 3D cinema system can match the scalability, quality and stylish appearance of Infinity, which is truly the best system to bring filmmakers’ artistic visions to life!”

The XPAND Infinity 3D glasses provide up to 38% transparency and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. The glasses’ lightweight ergonomic designs ensure long-wearing comfort, and their wide 3D viewing angle provides an optimal 3D image across the entire cinema. All new XPAND cinema systems and glasses fully support HFR (High Frame Rate) double and single flash at 96fps, 120fps, 144fps, 192fps, 240fps and even variable fps.

XPAND 3D is also the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and is a sponsor of the Venice Film Festival, the Montreal Film Festival and the Sarajevo Film Festival. XPAND 3D systems are used for the biggest 3D premieres around the world.

XPAND 3D’S NEW PASSIVE SYSTEMS RESET EXPECTATIONS IN SPECTACULAR FASHION!

DEAUVILLE, France – In a move to provide cinema industry professionals with more quality and choice than ever before possible, XPAND 3D — the leader in multidimensional imaging and pioneer of active shutter technologies — today introduced a new passive solution that delivers performance, comfort and commercial versatility to new, broader markets.  The new XPAND Polarizer and Color Spacer passive systems will feature stunning new glasses that are lighter, more ergonomic and certainly more stylish than anything on the market today.

Commenting on the announcement, Maria Costeira, Chief Executive Officer, XPAND 3D noted, “XPAND 3D is singularly committed to advancing the consumer experience of multidimensional imaging and whereas our active shutter technologies are deployed by the world’s leading cinemas and for the studios’ most important premieres, we recognized that a sizable market was being under-served with sub-par passive technologies.  Recognizing that only passive technology could meet the commercial needs of this group, we elected to design a superior solution that would elevate the performance threshold of passive 3D. I am thrilled that our new XPAND passive systems exceed all expectations on price and performance.”

XPAND 3D passive glasses reflect well on the theater and make for a more comfortable viewing experience.  The new XPAND Infinity glasses are high-end 3D glasses, which provide the brightest, most vivid and realistic 3D images available. XPAND Infinity glasses are also optimized to work with laser projectors, making it the optimal future-proof 3D system. The glasses are available in adult and children sizes.

All new XPAND cinema systems and glasses fully support HFR (High Frame Rate) double and single flash at 96fps, 120fps, 144fps, 192fps, 240fps and even variable fps. The Infinity 3D glasses provide up to 38% transparency and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. The glasses’ lightweight ergonomic designs ensure long-wearing comfort, and their wide 3D viewing angle provides an optimal 3D image across the entire cinema.

XPAND offers a wide range of high-end IR systems that cover spaces from 10 to more than 5,000 seats.  The XPAND Polarizer 3D system, a cost-effective 3D cinema solution using high-quality disposable circularly polarized 3D glasses and active projector polarizer with full support of all HFR formats. The system works with all digital cinema projectors and requires the usage of a high-gain silver screen. Due to the high gain screen usage, the XPAND Polarizer system is recommended only for cinemas that are used exclusively for 3D movies. Hybrid cinemas that are used for both 2D and 3D movies are recommended not use silver screens, due to the viewing zones and hot spot problems.

XPAND 3D Color Spacer is a passive, color wavelength-based 3D cinema solution. XPAND Color Spacer uses two cinema projectors, a matt white screen and reusable passive Color Spacer glasses. This solution is specifically designed for special venues that want to use passive glasses with a matt white screen. The system is recommended only with extra bright projectors due to the light output limitations of color wavelength filtering.

XPAND 3D systems are installed in cinemas worldwide, with 70 percent of the 3D cinema market share in Asia and more than 50 percent in mainland Europe. XPAND 3D glasses and systems are the default choice for VIP theaters, studio screening rooms, celebrities’ home cinemas, government presentations and high-quality 3D presentations. XPAND 3D is the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival, and is used for the biggest 3D Premieres globally.

“There is no question that active shutter technology provides the optimal visual experience,” Costeira added.  “But in many cases our customers have a stratified approach to offer ‘good,’ ‘better’ and ‘best theaters based on price and performance criteria.  They have come to rely on XPAND 3D for technology and service at the ‘better’ and ‘best’ and have asked us to develop a solution for the broader entry level.  We waited until a time that we could make a quantitative difference in the passive experience and yet do so at a price that would work.  I believe we have achieved this dual goal in spectacular fashion!”
