YALE to Demonstrate First Residential Locks With Near Field Communication Capability

ORLANDO, FL – Yale Locks & Hardware (www.yalelocks.com), an ASSA ABLOY Group company and a world leader in door hardware for residential and commercial applications, will demonstrate a version of its Yale Real Living locks with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The demonstration will take place at the upcoming CEDIA Expo 2011, September 7-10 in Indianapolis, IN.

The Yale Real Living line is the company’s first lock specifically designed to integrate seamlessly into the digital home.

In adding NFC capability, Yale expects to be the first US brand to offer residential locks with NFC capability.  What’s more, this Yale Real Living line will be compatible with the ASSA ABLOY Mobile Keys platform.  A scalable secure delivery infrastructure for distribution and management of mobile keys, the ASSA ABLOY Mobile Keys platform allows credentials to be distributed securely through NFC-enabled mobile phones as an alternative to mechanical keys and physical access cards.  Consequently, this will be the first line of residential locks that can be unlocked directly using an NFC-enabled mobile phone.

NFC is a short-range wireless communication technology standard that enables the exchange of data between devices up to a 10-centimeter distance.  Applications include contactless transactions such as payment and transit ticketing, keys, data transfers including electronic business cards, and access to online digital content.

The mobile keys platform enabled by the NFC technology has already been introduced to the hospitality industry by Yale’s parent company, ASSA ABLOY.  In fact, ASSA ABLOY recently completed the first-ever trial of the mobile keys platform at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm, in which 28 frequent hotel guests were invited to use the technology over an eight-month period.  Reaction to the mobile keys platform was overwhelmingly positive.

“From a residential perspective, the mobile phone is ubiquitous,” said Jason Williams, General Manager of Yale Residential.  “We use it to make reservations, schedule our day, everything.  By incorporating NFC technology into our Yale Real Living locks, we’ve extended the functionality of the mobile phone even further.  What’s more, we’ve created a highly secure product that capitalizes on ASSA ABLOY technology that is being extremely well-received in other end-user markets.”

Available with either a sleek capacitive touchscreen or pushbutton key pad, Yale’s new platform of intelligent locks supports both Z-Wave® and ZigBee®, allowing them to integrate seamlessly into a wide range of home control and security systems, including Control4, the Vera Z-Wave® home control system by Mi Casa Verde, and Alarm.com’s emPower™, among others.

ASSA ABLOY Showcases Near Field Communication Mobile Keys Platform at ASIS 2011

ORLANDO, FL — At ASIS 2011, ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions, is showcasing its Mobile Keys Platform, a scalable secure delivery infrastructure for distribution and management of mobile keys. The platform allows credentials to be distributed securely through NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled mobile phones, as an alternative to mechanical keys and physical access cards.

Utilizing Mobile Keys technology security managers can manage credentials from a central access control system and easily issue mobile keys to mobile phones with NFC technology. The credentials are stored in a tamper- resistant memory space in the phone, called a secure element. Credentials can be revoked if the phone is lost or stolen, and new keys can then be re-issued to a temporary phone.

“It will soon be possible to unlock and lock doors using mobile phones in hotels, commercial buildings and private homes. We believe the use of virtual access credentials will increase in the coming years,” stated NAME, TITLE ASSA ABLOY. “They offer not only higher security but also the simple convenience that users have come to expect as an increasing number of services become available through mobile phones.”

Instead of using a printer to encode a card or assigning a pre-encoded card to a user, a virtual key is delivered to and stored on an NFC-enabled mobile phone. The mobile key allows the user to open a lock with his/her mobile phone. The Mobile Keys Platform ensures end-to-end security and is applicable for residential, commercial and hotel applications.

Several contactless services, such as payments, ticketing and loyalty, have already been integrated into mobile phones. The same development is now happening with keys.

ASSA ABLOY will be located at booth #2312 during ASIS 2011 in Orlando, Florida.

ORLANDO, FL— At ASIS 2011, ASSA ABLOY is expanding its range of Securitron digital entry systems with the introduction of its DK-36 Keypad Controller, DK-37 Digital Keypad and DK-38 Digital Keypad. The new models are easy to install, easy to program and easy to use.

The Securitron DK-36 is a heavy-duty keypad controller that allows keypads to communicate with access control systems for centralized control. The DK-36 can control two doors, both sides of one door or two single doors, or can be used to operate a mantrap. The DK-36 works well with most Wiegand-compatible systems and it can be easily programmed from the keypad, from the controller, or from a computer. Available with a stainless steel backplate, the DK-36 is scalable, and capable of supporting up to 250 user credentials.

The DK-37 is a vertically oriented 2” x 6” digital keypad that can be either frame or mullion-mounted for easy installation. Its rugged metal body and stainless steel backplate are vandal-resistant and weatherproof, making the DK-37 ideal for exterior use. For added security, the DK-37 features a true 10-digit keypad (the keys are not paired). The DK-37 fits right on a doorframe or mullion, and its clean, streamlined design complements the architectural integrity of most any structure.

The Securitron DK-38 is an attractively styled, backlit LED digital keypad that is ideal for use in dimly lit or nighttime environments. Available in a stainless steel or black finish, its low profile, slim, recessed-look design blends well with a building’s existing architectural elements. The DK-38 can be recessed into a single gang for fast, easy installation.
