Brevity Announces Strategic Partnership With The Kraft Group

New York, New York – March 21, 2013  — In a strong affirmation of the core technology and market potential of Brevity, a digital technology start-up serving the media and entertainment markets, the company has entered into a strategic partnership with The Kraft Group that includes a significant infusion of capital. The Kraft Group’s investment, for which specific terms were not disclosed, follows previous angel rounds raised by Brevity totaling $7.7 million.

Founded in 2009, Brevity’s breakthrough solution was designed to highly accelerate the transport of digital video files while enabling the simultaneous delivery in multiple formats to multiple locations at the push of a button. Integrating web-based collaboration and workflow automation tools, Brevity provides an unparalleled user experience for managing and distributing digital media assets, and an increased efficiency in workflows for unmatched return on investment.

The technology has been adopted by leading broadcasters, NBC Sports and CBS Sports, and successfully deployed in critical applications for broadcasts of major events, including the 2012 Olympic Games and the NFL Super Bowl.  Brevity is currently expanding sales with many other leading broadcast, cable and content companies and expects to make sales announcements in the coming quarter.  Brevity’s technology has the capacity to significantly speed up the transport of media assets and has applications in a wide array of markets beyond media and entertainment.

The Kraft Group’s interests in sports and entertainment include ownership of the New England Patriots NFL franchise, the New England Revolution MLS franchise and Gillette Stadium. The holding company’s other interests include paper/packaging manufacturing and forest products distribution, real estate development and a portfolio of private equity investments.

According to Kevin Norris, Brevity President and CEO, the addition of a strong strategic partner like The Kraft Group underscores the strong market potential of Brevity in the media and entertainment sectors and positions the company for growth going forward.

“Brevity has proven its technology with some of the highest profile, most demanding media brands and now with an experienced, well-connected partner like The Kraft Group, we’re optimally positioned to take our technology to new customers and markets.”

Tested by a veritable who’s who of North American broadcasters, Brevity V3 moves securely encrypted files over Internet, fiber, or data satellite up to 30X faster than otherwise possible, while preserving image quality and high resolution, with support for leading industry codecs and formats such as Avid® DNxHD®, EVS MXF, Final Cut Pro, Sony Cameras and others. Brevity has been tested successfully on uncompressed, high bit-rate video, 2k and 4k DPX files, as well as compressed HD and SD files.

Two core algorithms, Data Warp, which is bit for bit lossless, and Image Warp, an optimized algorithm for video that is visually lossless power the Brevity solution.  Image Warp has been tested successfully against ProRes 4444 and Avid DNxHD 220; in a recent Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) test, it cored at or above 60 decibels, which is an objective industry measure of quality.  Both Data Warp and Image Warp create “transport” mezzanine files that reduce storage requirements while supporting industry standard formats at ingest and at output. The Brevity solution also includes Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) based video routers to provide teraflops of computing power to handle its powerful algorithms.

Brevity V3 is based on a powerful project paradigm that allows for approved users from one or more organizations to access project files virtualized across storage arrays, private, public, or hybrid clouds. When a file is ingested, a set of rules associated with the video sends it to multiple destinations automatically via accelerated transport, while simultaneously transcoding to the needed formats. The video files move with speed to all locations, arriving at the destination already in one or more requested formats based on pre-set profiles. Brevity V3 also has open web-services interfaces that enable integration and connections with a wide range of existing applications and tools.

Brevity’s main security measures consist of 256-bit AES encryption of the transport file during transmission and storage, and asset encryption keys transmitted using 4096-bit RSA encryption.

Brevity’s industry partners include Avid, with support for all Avid DNxHD formats and EVS, with support for the proprietary legacy EVS MXF format as well as the EVS MXF OP1a and QuickTime wrappers. Brevity also offers complete support for Apple® ProRes including the much in demand ProRes-DNxHD conversions.

Amsterdam, Netherlands – September 7, 2012  – Marking the European debut of Brevity’s breakthrough solution for simultaneous transcode and high-speed transport of broadcast-quality content, the company is exhibiting its new sports industry focus at IBC 2012 in Media Logic’s booth J17, in Hall 7.

Brevity recently provided integrated transcode and transport support of graphics files to NBC Olympics during its production of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Building on its success in supporting sports programming, Brevity is introducing a new sports industry focus at IBC that improves file-based workflows across a range of the most demanding, time-sensitive and complex requirements across the sports programming ecosystem in Europe and North America. This includes programming in European football (soccer), American football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and other sports.

“The sports industry is a perfect example of how Brevity can transform costly and time-consuming workflows built around inefficient workarounds,” said Timothy O’Brien, President and CEO, Brevity. “Brevity’s unique capability to simultaneously transcode and transport digital files in multiple formats to multiple locations now redefines what is possible in managing highlights and production files to and from the production trucks at sports venues and the broadcast center.”

High value sports content must be viewed within a short time window to be relevant.  Brevity’s high speed transcode and transport technology is gaining especially strong traction in the sports broadcasting ecosystem since there are constant pressures to reduce the time it takes to transcode, transport, and deliver finished sports programming.

By supporting EVS Broadcast formats as well as Avid® DNxHD®, ProRes, RLE, and other leading formats, Brevity is able to transcode sports highlights and graphics known as “melts” on the fly, converting them in transport to editing formats needed to create sports programming. Brevity can then send the finished segments back to the EVS for immediate playout, without any intermediate steps.

Brevity will be exhibiting with Media Logic, a leader in providing digital solutions for the Sports and Television industry in Europe. Top customers of Media Logic include the ARD/ZDF for the Vancouver Winter Olympics, the ORF for Alpine Ski programming, and many others.

“We recognize that Brevity brings a very unique solution to the market and we are pleased to be showcasing them here at IBC,” said Andreas Martin, Sales Manager at Media Logic. “As a broadcast integration leader, we strongly believe that Brevity will be able to deliver new efficiencies and create increased opportunities in sports networks and broadcast production throughout Germany and Europe.”

Brevity V3 moves securely encrypted files over Internet, fiber, or data satellite up to 30X faster than otherwise possible while maintaining high quality resolution and support for leading industry codecs and formats such as Avid DNxHD, EVS MXF, Final Cut Pro, Sony Cameras and others. Brevity has been tested successfully on uncompressed, high bit rate video, 2k and 4k DPX files, as well as compressed HD and SD files. Using a cloud based enterprise media management and collaboration solution, Brevity is utilizing automated project-driven workflows, advanced algorithms, virtual storage, web-based interfaces, and teraFLOPS of computing power.

“At IBC our goal is to show the world that Brevity is a game changer- delivering to the industry for the first time simultaneous transcode and transport capability along with our web-based collaboration and workflow automation tools,” continued O’Brien. “We want to show the sports broadcast industry that it is now finally possible to receive highlights much faster than before, deliver sports programming more cost-efficiently, and to simplify production truck file-based workflows.”

Brevity’s industry partners include Avid, with support for all Avid DNxHD formats and EVS, with support for the proprietary legacy EVS MXF format as well as the EVS OpenCube suite that wraps files in OP1a or QuickTime formats. Brevity also offers complete support for ProRes including ProRes-DNxHD and DNxHD-ProRes conversions.

Brevity is based in New York City and has a sales office in Los Angeles and a development office in the Portland, Oregon area.

Brevity will be located at the Media Logic booth in Hall 7, J17 at IBC from September 7, 2012 to September 11, 2012.

Brevity Partners with TRANZXL to Service Professional Production Industry in Film and TV

Las Vegas, NV – April 18, 2012 – Brevity, a venture-backed NYC start-up serving the Media & Entertainment industry announced today a strategic partnership with TRANZXL, a bi-coastal service company that is launching the first Brevity powered service bureaus, drop-off rentals and on-location packages designed to speed and simplify HD file conversion and delivery.  Recognizing the growing need for time and cost savings associated with file-based HD production for TV, film, live and web, TRANZXL will allow producers, broadcasters and creators to use and rent units at TRANZXL’s New York and Los Angeles facilities for short periods of time on a per project basis.

“Brevity’s V3 technology was developed to transform the current state of the broadcast and production industry,” said Jake Bronstein, CEO, Brevity. “TRANZXL is working along the same ideal as us to further the opportunity for those in the video production and media industry who may only need a Brevity unit for a specific project.”

Debuting at NAB 2012, Brevity V3 is a breakthrough technology that delivers simultaneous transcoding and highly accelerated transport of high-resolution video as an integrated process on any network. V3 delivers this capability through a Web based enterprise video management solution that utilizes automated project-driven workflows, advanced algorithms, virtual storage, Web-based interfaces, and teraflops of computing power.

TRANZXL is utilizing the Brevity solution to meet a very specific audience of professional HD producers, delivering their content to TV, film and the web.  Production companies, live event producers and commercial agencies all struggle with the format complexities and wasted time that it takes to service the growing amount of HD footage being created everyday.  By collaborating with Brevity to customize and develop their technologies for the specific needs of these HD producers, TRANZXL can provide a faster, more automated and collaborative approach to many workflow steps that are currently executed manually on costly edit systems, dramatically improving production efficiencies while lowering costs.

“I’ve been a hands-on producer and editor for over 20 years.  I’ve seen tape to tape, to digital, to cards and files…more shooting and HD cameras than imaginable,” said Paul G Goldberg, CEO, TRANZXL. “Working with Brevity to develop unique solutions for HD content production will have an immediate impact on our industry saving even small and independent producers and creative talent significant time, money and resources spent on the editing and post process.”

A Brevity demo will be available at the TRANZXL booth located in the Lower South Hall, SL12807. Brevity will be located at booth SL13316 at NAB from April 16, 2012 to April 19, 2012.
