Singer/songwriter Jeff Iftekaruddin has enjoyed success touring throughout California with HARMAN’s JBL EON515XT portable PA loudspeaker.

ANAHEIM, California – Jeff Iftekaruddin is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who has been influenced by many styles of music, from the works of John Lennon that his mother loved to the music of his father’s native India. Recently, Iftekaruddin has enjoyed success touring throughout California with HARMAN’s JBL Professional EON515XT portable PA loudspeaker providing world-class audio quality in a lightweight and compact form factor.

From the day he first picked up a guitar, Iftekaruddin has been interested in combining various genres of music to create his own style, including songs recorded in both English and Spanish. His eclectic approach to songwriting can be heard in his most recent adult contemporary release, Songs About Women.

In the past two years, two unforeseen events have had a major influence on Iftekaruddin’s musical outlook. “Up until 2011 I was only making music for ‘grown ups,’” Iftekaruddin noted. “Then a chance encounter with a very special young girl and her family added a whole new perspective to my musical career.”

Iftekaruddin was playing his guitar near an auto shop while waiting for an oil change when a young boy and girl came over to listen. The girl began to softly sing along and Iftekaruddin did an improvised duet with the girl for about 15 minutes.

He then realized the girl’s parents had come over—and were politely waiting for him to finish. “The girl’s mother explained that her daughter was autistic and that they didn’t want to interrupt a song that was so calming for their child,” Iftekaruddin said. “She told me that her daughter had been feeling extremely anxious and that singing the song with me was the first time she had been calm all day.”

Iftekaruddin went home that night and reflected on how connected this little girl had been to his music. “I decided to write the girl her very own album,” he said I” wanted to fill it with music that any child—and their parents—would enjoy, no matter what their challenges were in life.” The result is Iftekaruddin’s new album, Songs About Turtles, Wolves and Stan the Man: Music for Kids Who Get It!

Another unplanned occurrence made Iftekaruddin realize the importance of good sound in live performance. “At the last minute I was asked to do a charity event in Santa Monica and had to use whatever PA they had. It was a JBL EON system,” he said. “I was performing in a massive yoga studio with beautiful bamboo floors and as soon as I plugged in and started playing I was mesmerized. I stopped worrying about my performance and just got lost in the sound. To hear my voice and guitar ringing out of the EON monitors with such clarity was just amazing – a definite rock star moment!”

Iftekaruddin soon purchased a JBL EON15XT powered loudspeaker. “Now I know I’m going to have great sound wherever I go,” he said. “I primarily play a Godin A6 guitar live and the EON515XT allows me to play direct—no EQ pedal, no ultra-funky acoustic wave modulator—just direct. I can hear every single nuance of my axe through the EON515XT.”

Iftekaruddin takes the EON515XT with him at all times. “I also have a 12-Volt/35-Watt battery plus a converter that I use to give me mobile power,” he said. “A lot of times after a show I will drive to a bank parking lot or the local Costco in Los Feliz and play for a few hours. To hear the EON515XT rebounding in such massive spaces is a holy experience.”

“My foray into the kids’ music arena has been a huge surprise in my life, and after doing shows many kids come up to me and want to know about my guitar and my equipment,” he added. “They are always interested in the EON515XT and its built-in mixer and I usually wind up having a ‘helper’ or two at a birthday party to help me set up. It’s so easy to use that they are always able to pick up very quickly how the EON515XT works.”

In addition, Iftekaruddin has found JBL Professional’s customer support to be first-rate. “It has been my experience that a lot of large companies lose touch with their customers, but JBL makes me feel like they listen to us folks who are out there in the field,” he said.

Iftekaruddin continues to bring his musical message of positivity to audiences at home and abroad. “On my new CD you’ll hear songs about working through challenges and making mistakes, a song that can help kids learn Spanish and a song about the beauty of being ‘different.’ I do my best to create a fun listening experience for the whole family.”

NORTHRIDGE, California – Like many independent artists, singer/songwriter Matt Shockley embraces the “DIY” ethic, from writing and performing his engaging acoustic-guitar-driven songs to booking gigs, maintaining a website, (www.mattshockley.com), doing all his own promotion and marketing-and yes, even setting up the PA. His HARMAN JBL EON515XT portable, powered loudspeakers and EON518S powered subwoofer help get him through a busy schedule no matter what the venue.

Shockley has produced four albums including his latest, Love Like This to be released May 29. “I was born in Georgia, moved to California seven years ago and it’s felt like home ever since,” said Shockley. “My original recordings reflect the journey I’ve been on, which like many artists has been full of twists-including moving across the country for a girlfriend, getting dumped, and finding my wife less than two months later! The diversity of people in California has shaped me as a person and as a musical artist.”

The diversity of Shockley’s gigs has played an equally influential part. “I’ve performed in clubs, bars, indoor and outdoor events, colleges, weddings and even on yachts, from a handful to hundreds of people, solo and with a band,” he said. “I need a PA system that’s as flexible as I am. Sometimes I just need a single EON515XT, for example, if people want a background vibe at a party. Other times I’ll be doing a show for hundreds of people and need both EON515XTs and the 518S.”

An acoustic guitarist/vocalist with a subwoofer? “Although I play originals, as a full-time musician I’m asked to do a lot of covers, everything from classic rock to Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and hip-hop,” Shockley noted. “When I perform, I use a looper pedal and play percussion on my guitar. I can bang on the top of the guitar with my fist and get a bass drum sound, loop it with a higher-pitched tap for the snare and get a really powerful groove going. The 518S subwoofer is great for deep, punchy bass impact and for getting people dancing! The setup has tremendous dynamics and headroom.”

“I have to admit that what first attracted me to the EON515XT wasn’t the sound, though, it was the looks,” Shockley added. “When I first laid eyes on them I thought, ‘Wow, those are some sexy speakers! If they sound half as good as they look, I’ll take them!’ After using my previous speakers for nearly 500 events, I wanted something that looked modern and new and was portable enough for one guy to transport and set up easily, yet delivered quality sound that wasn’t compromised by size or weight.”

Shockley uses his EON515XT’s with the EON518S 99 percent of the time but whether he’s using one, two or all three of his speakers, the sound is always clear and crisp and Shockley knows I’ll his music will get across to his audience. “At a recent gig I had little space and had to set up quickly, so I just took one EON515XT, plugged my mike and acoustic guitar into the built-in inputs without even needing a mixer, and was ready to go in minutes,” Shockley said. “I love the fact that I have all the options I need with these speakers.”

“When I perform live, I want to be as creative and whimsical as my imagination allows,” Shockley concluded. “I’m a passionate guy and I want my emotions to shine through in my recordings and live shows. I feel completely comfortable with the JBL EON speakers and I know the audience is going to feel my songs the way they were meant to be experienced.”

NORTHRIDGE, California – For some, music is an escape from reality. For others, it provides a road back to reality. For Gabriel The Gun, it’s been both. Co-founder of the ska-pop band No Doubt with star Gwen Stefani, Gabriel has been through his share of adventures. To tell his story, Gabriel relies on HARMAN’s JBL EON515XT portable PA loudspeakers while traveling to Los Angeles school districts with the hopes of steering students from the dangers of a lifestyle he was lucky to survive.

”We started touring with No Doubt in 1986 and I got into substance abuse in a big way,” Gabriel said. “It wasn’t until I was flat on my back in an ICU hooked up to all types of monitors and machines, that I knew I had to change my life. I thought of my own kids and how my actions reflected on them and vowed to get clean. I took a 3-year sabbatical and straightened out my life. At that point I started to think of young musicians and how I could turn my mistakes into their success. I knew my destiny was to make a change in the world—maybe just one kid at a time.”

Eventually, Gabriel founded a 10-piece reggae/ska band with a jazz and soul influence called the BackBeat Brawlers. Gabriel said, “I believe that music heals and my epiphany was to serve society as an artist. And let’s face it, we as humans are challenged daily by a multitude of bad situations and music helps people through hard times. The BackBeat Brawlers perform at inner city schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District. We play for the kids and then we get down to the business of the truth. At most clinics, artists discuss music theory, what scale to play within certain chords, but we talk about life on the road. And while we discuss substance abuse and the pitfalls of the addicted lifestyle, our main focus of discussion is on all the great things that music and the arts provide.”

Gabriel explained the need to have an audio system that is self-reliant and easy to travel with. “When looking for speakers that would fit our needs, I went right to JBL knowing their reputation for being the best,” he said. “The message we want to convey is one of positivity, creativity and the soul-enriching power of music. We needed speakers that were equal in sound to the strength of that message. The choice was a no-brainer. The logistics behind traveling with a 10-piece band are difficult, and the JBL EON515XT speakers make our new road life less complicated. They’re awesome sounding, easy to transport and the setup is a breeze.”

”I’m so excited by the change that we have created in schools and communities,” Gabriel concluded. “If we can inspire even one child’s dreams or goals, then we know we have done our job. It’s such a rewarding experience.”

NORTHRIDGE, California – Tim Bomba, an announcer for marathon and triathlon events, has been using HARMAN’s JBL EON515XT portable loudspeakers to announce races across the United States, including The Keybank Vermont City Marathon in Burlington Vermont, and the Beach 2 Battleship Iron Triathlon in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.

While larger events (more than 5,000 racers) require hiring a sound company, at smaller races Bomba has used four or more EON515XT loudspeakers at the Starting Lines, and frequently more at the Finish Lines.  Each speaker is set up on tripods about seven feet off the ground, allowing the sound to travel over the racer’s heads, a major concern when there are thousands of racers at the starting line, all listening for directions and safety instructions.

As a race director and event consultant, high-quality audio is a top priority for Bomba. In addition to providing sound for the participants, Bomba also needs to deliver event updates to the spectators. As well as announcing, Bomba plays music during the competitions, adding entertainment to the racers’ and spectators’ experience. “It’s great to have a portable, high-quality loudspeaker that works equally well with music and voice, to physically place wherever it’s needed,” Bomba explained. “The EON515XT’s are so universal that I can hook up anything to the system, including mixers, or just a microphone and an iPod.”

The big challenge of announcing a race is having a system that can last through extreme conditions, sometimes for up to 10 hours. High and low temperatures, wind, rain and humidity all play a factor. “I have yet to have any problems with the EON515XT’s even in the most extreme cases and I’ve pushed them hard,” said Bomba. “With the sun hitting the system directly, the built-in Crown amplification and cooling system could not be better. The composite enclosures are perfect for durability, especially in the humidity. In the case of triathlons, with the swim start being at the ocean or a lake, the resilience of the enclosure is essential.”

The other important aspect of the EON515XT that comes in handy during a race is its light weight. “It’s easy to set up the system yourself. I just take them out of the truck, attach them to the stand, and they are ready to go. This makes them easy to move before, during and after the race if there are different locations that require sound,” Bomba explained.
