NORTHRIDGE, California – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced that its VTX Series V25 fullsize line array loudspeaker is a 2012 PLASA Awards for Innovation winner.

PLASA is one of the premier international events for entertainment and installation technology. During the show’s opening two days in September, 47 products were judged by an independent panel of industry experts, who toured the show floor to evaluate each product. Eight Awards for Innovation winners were chosen, including the JBL VTX V25 which was also the only audio product selected.

The V25 “addresses a lot of the traditional problems with loudspeakers by addressing the problems at the driver engineering level,” the PLASA Awards for Innovation judges said.

The JBL VTX Series V25 is a fullsize, 3-way high-directivity line array element that features two 15-inch Differential Drive® woofers mounted, with four 8-inch Differential Drive midrange transducers and three D2 dual-diaphragm dual-voice-coil compression drivers mounted on a third-generation waveguide/Radiation Boundary Integrator assembly. The Radiation Boundary Integrator combines the midrange and high-frequency sections of the V25 so the transition across each frequency band is uninterrupted while providing broad, stable horizontal coverage combined with proper line source array coupling for 0-10 degree inter-enclosure angles in the vertical plane.

The dual annular diaphragms employed in the D2 driver addresses the limitations of conventional compression driver technology: limited high-frequency extension due to the mass of a dome diaphragm and voice coil assembly, and distortion from dome breakup modes. The D2 merges two compression drivers into a single transducer that utilizes two voice coils instead of the larger, heavier single voice coil found in conventional drivers. The result is increased power handling and SPL along with smoother, extended high-frequency response and lower distortion.

“We are gratified that the PLASA Awards for Innovation judges have recognized what we have achieved with our new flagship V25 line array,” said Paul Bauman, Senior Manager, Tour Sound for JBL Professional. “Since its introduction earlier this year, the V25 has been praised by some of the world’s top front-of-house engineers and sound contractors as a significant leap forward in clarity, resolution and accuracy along with its ability to deliver higher SPL and higher dynamic fidelity.”

NORTHRIDGE, California – Continuing its commitment to staying on the cutting edge of technological advancement, Maryland Sound International recently became the first company in the United States to add the new HARMAN JBL VTX Line Array Series loudspeakers to its inventory. One of the world’s leading sound production companies, Maryland Sound was founded in 1966 to serve Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons on a national tour, growing over the decades to become one of the industry’s foremost sound contractors, with a resumé spanning presidential inaugurations to Times Square New Year’s Eve broadcasts to major concert tours.

Maryland Sound first deployed its VTX system at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on April 9. “We built our business on offering our clients the very best, and we are purchasing more than 300 of the new JBL VTX V25 line array loudspeakers,” said Bob Goldstein, President of Maryland Sound. “We will be using them for large-scale events, smaller productions and everything in between.”

The JBL VTX Series is the next generation of JBL line array loudspeaker design. “VTX represents an evolution of JBL’s industry-standard VERTEC® that heralds a new era in performance, system integration and user-friendliness,” said Paul Bauman, Senior Manager, Tour Sound, JBL Professional. “The VTX Series features JBL’s legendary sound quality coupled with the most advanced sound reinforcement technology and support available.”

“When you start with outstanding components and put them into a well-designed enclosure, you can’t help but end up with outstanding results,” Goldstein continued. “I have to say that the technology behind the V25 is amazing. I’m a guy who likes to experience high-frequency reproduction all the way out to 20kHz. The D2 drivers handle a ton of power with no breakup modes and no measurable distortion. Having the D2 drivers in the V25 makes a huge difference and I wanted to have that kind of sound quality in our inventory.”

The JBL VTX Series V25 full-size, 3-way high-directivity line array element features two 2,000W, 15-inch Differential Drive® woofers mounted in die-cast aluminum baffles, with four 8-inch Differential Drive midrange transducers and three D2 dual-diaphragm dual-voice-coil compression drivers mounted on a third-generation waveguide and patented Radiation Boundary Integrator assembly.

“The new JBL D2 high-frequency driver is fantastic,” Goldstein added. “There is virtually no distortion, and designer Paul Bauman and his team came up with a new waveguide that takes full advantage of its performance to distribute extremely smooth frequency response with even coverage.”

In addition, Maryland Sound will continue to use its existing VERTEC VT4889 inventory. “I think the VT4889’s with the V5 software tunings are world-class and we will not stop using them anytime soon,” Goldstein noted. “That said, the VTX V25 is simply a step up in its ability to resolve musical detail.”

“Our clients want to know that we’re always on the leading edge of the technological state of the art,” Goldstein concluded. “Having the best technology like the JBL VTX V25 means we can provide the best service AND the best sound. Our clients don’t have to ask us to upgrade—we do it on our own because we want to stay on the cutting edge.”

AED Rent Becomes First Adopter of HARMAN’s JBL Professional VTX VT25 Line Array Loudspeakers

NORTHRIDGE, California – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced that Belgium-based AV rental system provider AED Rent has signed on as the first adopter of JBL’s next-generation VTX V25 line array loudspeaker and as a Strategic Partner in the VTX Network. AED Rent is known throughout Europe as a market leader and a total system provider, making the company an ideal candidate to help introduce the revolutionary VTX Series to the industry.

“Our mission statement is quite simple: To develop and maintain a flexible group of companies on a Pan-European base that offers a total solution for the professional in the AV industry,” said Glenn Roggeman, CEO of the AED group. “AED Rent is not just a rental company but an equipment bank, not only in sound, but also in lighting, rigging and video equipment. What makes this business quite unique is large quantities, industry standards, state-of-the-art products, and a young rental fleet with fast and accurate service.”

The VTX V25 is a revolutionary product that builds on the company’s 65-year heritage of loudspeaker design innovation and groundbreaking technology development. Designed for portable and fixed-venue system operators alike, the VTX Series features JBL’s legendary sound quality coupled with the most advanced sound reinforcement technology and support available.

“We chose to purchase the JBL V25 because I think JBL has it spot-on for the future,” Roggeman said. JBL has always been known as the best component builder. Today, thanks to Paul Bauman, they not only have the components, but also the speaker boxes to make a terrific system.”

The VTX V25 is a full-size, 3-way, high-directivity line array element. The VTX V25 features two 2000W, 15-inch Differential Drive® woofers mounted in die-cast aluminum baffles, with four 8-inch Differential Drive mid-range transducers and three of the revolutionary new D2 Dual-Diaphragm Dual-Voice-Coil Compression Drivers mounted on a 3rd generation waveguide and patented RBI Radiation Boundary Integrator® assembly.

“The technology JBL is using in the V25 is on the cutting edge,” Roggeman added. “If you see how much power the system is driving, it’s way above any competition. If you see the weight of the cabinets—82 kg—this is another attractive element, because in the future, environmental issues will play a bigger role in our business. A cabinet of 110 kg that needs to be transported will be more expensive than a cabinet of 82 kg.”

“We are thrilled that AED Rent has chosen to support the groundbreaking VTX V25 product,” said Paul Bauman, Senior Manager, Tour Sound, JBL Professional. “AED Rent’s technical expertise and leading position in the industry will be tremendous assets in our introduction of the V25 to the market.”
